I remember this day at Smile Wonders, I was scheduled to work in both the front desk and in the dental rooms. At the front desk, I again got to help with filing the insurance papers, shredding, and scanning. A new task that I was given was to write reports on different patients' medical history, and parents' information. I also had to identify whether the patient had any allergies or medications which had to be kept in mind during the appointments.
While I was in the back office, I went to help with collecting tools such as toothbrushes, paste, flosses, glasses, and X-ray machines. I was also able to help with cleaning the chairs and tools at the end of every appointment. One new task that I was given during the dental visits was to help the doctor take the X-rays. While the doctor positioned and held the X-ray machine in the child’s mouth it was my responsibility to click the button on the keyboard which clicked the pictures. To me this task was easy as I had to wait for the doctor to give me a go sign and by a click of a button the X-ray pictures were taken. I learnt that when examining X-rays if the teeth have green spots this means that the children’s teeth are clean of cavities, but if any red, black, or yellow spots are seen then this indicates that the child either has cavities, or decay in those specific spots, and must be treated the right way.
I was amazed how the X-rays pictures helped the doctors to diagnose inside the patient's mouth.
I am grateful to Dr Jaju and all the office staff who made sure that I got the full experience of looking at their front and back office activities. What a big learning and amazing experience for me! Definitely look forward to any other opportunities to visit them again.
